Rhythm 101

  • Synth Library Portland 123 Northeast 3rd Avenue Portland, OR, 97232 United States (map)

This workshop for beginners will cover the fundamental elements of rhythm in electronic music, from time signatures to sequencing beats. Using examples from famous electronic grooves, students will engage in guided, exercises to better appreciate and compose rhythms with drum machines and software.

Because the Synth Library has very few drum machines in our permanent collection, attendees who want to follow along with the demonstrations are encouraged to bring a phone, tablet, or laptop with their favorite digital audio workstation (like Ableton Live or Garage Band) or any drum software with a sequencer (we can offer recommendations at the event, and may be able to offer a laptop for use if it is not already in use).
